A Day at Sea

If a dream is a wish your heart makes, the Disney Wish is certainly a dream come true!

The Wish docked at Port Canaveral, FL

At ADJ Travel, we love cruising and Disney Cruise Line is at the top of our list for families. The accommodations are some of the largest in the cruise industry, the entertainment is world-class, the atmosphere is fun for all ages, and the service is everything you’d expect from a Disney vacation. Even though a Disney Cruise isn’t exactly Walt Disney World at sea, it will give you all of those same feel-good vibes on top of an amazing cruise experience. Disney Cruise Line sails everywhere in the world you’ll find other cruise lines heading to: the Bahamas, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Alaska—you name it!

With five ships currently in their fleet (and two more to come in the next couple of years), each cruise experience is unique. My family had the privilege of sailing on the newest ship-the Disney Wish-last November. For those who may not have cruised before—or those who haven’t been on a Disney Cruise Line voyage—I thought I’d share a little sampling of a day at sea with Disney!

A Sample Day at Sea Onboard the Disney Wish

7:30am – Wake up and head straight out on your private balcony for sweeping views of the ocean rolling by. You may even catch the sun still coming up over the horizon.

8:00am – You head down the hall to the elevator and ride up to deck 11 for breakfast at Marceline Market. This is a buffet-style restaurant with everything you can imagine: made-to-order omelets, bacon and sausage, pastries, cereal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, French toast, eggs benedict, and—of course—MICKEY WAFFLES! While you’re eating, you check the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app for the day’s activities and entertainment. You notice that Minnie Mouse is having a character meet at 9:00am.

8:45am – You line up to meet Minnie herself and after everyone gets a hug and a photo, you’re off for more fun!

9:15am – After gathering the swim bag from your stateroom and slathering everyone with sunscreen, you head to the pool deck for sun and fun. Everyone enjoys the pools, the AquaMouse water coaster, the movies on the funnel, and…..the unlimited ice cream cones. Hey, it’s vacation!

11:30 – You’ve scheduled a couples massage for 12:00, so you walk the kids to the Oceaneer Club (included) for a couple of hours of supervised fun and activities. You know they’ll have a wonderful time—and if your kids need you before you return, the crew members at the kids’ club will text and let you know.

1:30pm – After a relaxing massage and some time on the adults only deck, both of you are feeling refreshed. You pick up the kiddos and decide to order room service for lunch. Since most of the room service menu is included in your cruise fare, everyone orders whatever they want, even Mickey ice cream bars.

2:30pm – After looking at the Navigator app, you notice a family craft activity, drawing class, and character meet with Goofy that everyone is interested in checking out. There’s also a brand-new, just released movie playing at the Buena Visa Theatre (for FREE). Your biggest issue on this cruise is deciding what to do next!

5:45pm – After a fun, full afternoon onboard, it’s time for dinner at Worlds of Marvel. Each of Disney’s ships has three main dining rooms and you’ll rotate to a different one each night of your cruise. Your servers will follow you each night to provide personalized service! Worlds of Marvel is an immersive and interactive dining experience and even the menu gives a nod to your favorite Avengers. Even though the dining experience takes longer than dinner at home, no one is bored for a second!

8:30pm – After dinner and a couple of spontaneous character meets in the Atrium area of the ship, the whole family heads to the Walt Disney Theatre for a live Broadway style rendition of Aladdin. You enjoy a talented cast with amazing acting, singing, and storytelling.

9:30pm – The day is yours to finish! Should you send the kids off to the Oceaneer Club and visit the Hyperspace Lounge? Take everyone up to the pool deck for night swimming and a movie? Participate in family friendly karaoke? Enjoy nighttime ocean views from your private verandah? Do what makes you happy!
